1. When do classes start for the ABSN program?

We offer ABSN program starts in January, May, and August.

2. What is an online-based Accelerated BSN program?

Our ABSN program takes a blended approach to an accelerated nursing education. The program follows a rigorous, effective sequence of online nursing theory coursework, skills labs and proctored exams at our ABSN program site, and clinical Rotations at Saint Thomas Health.

3. What qualifications do I need to get into accelerated nursing school?

You must have a non-nursing bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 credit hours you completed. You must also complete all of the ABSN prerequisite courses within our grade and GPA requirements.

4. How much time can I expect to be in labs?

Some of our skills labs can last anywhere from two to four weeks, depending on the subject material, and will require you to come to our ABSN program site at least two days per week.

5. How many clinical hours will I complete at Saint Thomas Health?

While the exact location and length of each clinical rotation at Saint Thomas Health varies, you can expect to complete a total of 765 clinical practice hours in a wide variety of health care settings.

6. Can I work while in the ABSN program?

The Leighton School of Nursing advises that ABSN students focus solely on their education given the time and commitment required to complete accelerated nursing program successfully.

7. Why are NCLEX pass rates important?

Every nursing school graduate must take and pass the NCLEX exam to earn RN licensure, which is required to enter the nursing workforce. BSN programs with high NCLEX pass rates demonstrate a commitment to both student success and the nursing profession.
