Whether you’re new to the Marian University accelerated nursing program in Indianapolis or have been studying hard for several months now, you’ve probably realized that connecting with your peers is critical to your success and sanity as you navigate your journey through nursing school.
Your peers can be helpful resources and hold you accountable for keeping up with your studies. Many students in the Marian ABSN program have enjoyed the benefits of study groups and accountability partners. However, Marian’s hybrid platform means that you won’t always be working with your peers in person.
Luckily, technology provides us with endless ways to stay connected from just about anywhere. Our online platform where you complete some of your classes allows you to connect with others. Another great way to communicate with your cohort peers is through a mobile app (Yep, there’s an app for that!). There are several group messaging options on the market, but the app that I believe meets all of your needs as nursing students is GroupMe.
What does GroupMe have to offer?
- Private chat room for your entire group to arrange study schedules, answer questions, send homework reminders and offer encouragement to one another. You can even share pictures with your group.
- Functionality on any device – iOS, Android and Windows software. You can also access GroupMe from your computer at home. And don’t worry if you don’t have a “smart” device – the app will even send group messages through as regular text messages for those who don’t have the app.
- Free service. Enough said, right?
Nursing school is challenging, but it’s a journey. You’ll have the most successful and enjoyable experience if you learn to lean on your peers throughout the process. Why not take advantage of all of the ways technology really can bring us closer together?
