About Marian University
Founded in 1936, Marian University is a nonprofit, faith-based learning institution that provides students, no matter their fields of study, with a quality education framed within the context of Franciscan values.
Marian University’s Alan & Sue Leighton School of Nursing building is in Indianapolis, IN, and we offer a second location in Nashville, Tennessee, within the Ascension St. Thomas West hospital campus. While we are a Catholic university, we welcome students of all faiths who seek a quality, student-centered educational experience grounded in:
- Dignity of the individual
- Peace and justice
- Reconciliation
- Responsible stewardship
Through these Franciscan values, we can carry out our vision of providing each student with an education that profoundly transforms lives, society, and the world. With respect to our ABSN program, we use the importance of faith to teach nursing students how to take a holistic approach to patient care, which focuses on treating the mind, body, and spirit.
Leighton School of Nursing
Since its opening in 1977, our Leighton School of Nursing has a history of excellence in nursing education, thanks to our expert faculty, faith-based values, and clinical partnerships. Healthcare employers tend to value the expertise and dedication our graduates bring to the nursing workforce.
We can provide you with a highly individualized learning experience through small student-faculty ratios and close-knit cohorts. Furthermore, our nonprofit status lets us put your needs above everything else.
Why Choose Marian University's ABSN?
As part of a university with a long-established history in nursing education, Marian University’s ABSN program pairs a rigorous nursing curriculum with Franciscan values which can benefit anyone entering a nursing career.
Our school of nursing has educated thousands of nurses over the decades and, throughout that time, has remained consistently dedicated to change and improvement. To educate as many nurses and nursing leaders as possible, our transfer ABSN admissions path in Indianapolis and Nashville makes it possible to enroll without having completed a previous non-nursing bachelor’s degree.
This admissions pathway imparts students with an Associate of Science in Health Sciences (ASHS) degree before they earn their BSN. We impart the knowledge, skills, and techniques each student will need to become a practicing clinician, regardless of program format or admissions path.
Additionally, our values, such as respecting the dignity of the individual, aid our students in developing their bedside manner. Marian nursing graduates enter their careers with the foundation to shape their views as nurses, truly seeing each patient they will treat as an individual.
Nursing Degree Options
In addition to the online-based Accelerated BSN program, Marian University Leighton School of Nursing offers additional paths for students interested in a nursing career, including the on-campus ABSN, traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Second-Degree BSN, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. Each degree option provides a strong educational and clinical framework for students hoping to impact the future of health care positively.
