This past spring, all of us at the Marian University accelerated nursing program in Indianapolis were proud when ABSN student Shelly Brosseau was honored at the Indianapolis Star’s eleventh annual Salute to Nurses ceremony.
Nursing schools across Indiana nominate one student to represent their college or university. Because we have hundreds of deserving individuals at Marian University, we chose to create an essay contest.
An internal committee was formed to review the essays, and Shelly was chosen as our representative. From there, the Indiana State Board of Nursing selected Shelly from all the nominees throughout the state. Her essay about what inspired her to become a nurse won her a $3,500 scholarship.
You could have the opportunity to do what Shelly did.
Become the Marian University ABSN Program Nominee for 2014
Each Indiana nursing program is allowed just one nominee in the contest. A committee of Marian University faculty and staff will select which essay will be submitted on behalf of our nursing program. The State Board of Nursing selects the final winner.
Do you want to represent Marian University in 2014? Find out if you are eligible and how you can enter by contacting Regional Site Director Julie Smith at email@example.com no later than January 13, 2014.
Make a Positive Difference with Your Words
If you are part of the contest, you don’t have to win to make an impact. Even if your essay is not selected, it may be used by the Indianapolis Star and Marian University for St.Vincent to inspire future nursing students to take the next step in their education. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to share your story and potentially win money to put towards your nursing education.
