One of the first things you should consider when beginning your nursing school research is the format of the program. Will you need to drive to campus everyday? Will you be able to complete your courses anywhere, anytime? Marian University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Program gives you the best of both worlds. You can choose to complete your courses in the comfort of your own home or the local coffee shop, but you’ll also gain hands-on experience in our skills lab and through hospital clinical rotations.
Let us take you through the basics of the blended learning experience at Marian University.
Blended learning? What’s that?
Our accelerated nursing program combines online learning with real-life clinical practice. The clinical component is twofold. You’ll work with your classmates to practice on patient simulators in the skills lab, and you’ll interact with patients and medical professionals during clinical rotations.
What does online learning consist of?
With online classes you can choose where to study and when to complete your lessons. Each online course is taught by an instructor who is available to answer questions and clear up any concerns. You can also connect with your classmates by taking advantage of online discussion boards. Unlike a traditional classroom, you’ll be able to pause and rewind the discussion at any instance as many times as you want. As long as you have internet access, you’ll have access to course materials. To prepare you for exams and a nursing career, each online course makes use of simulated learning activities.
What is the skills lab?
The skills lab is located on our ABSN site and features patient simulators, hospital beds and medical supplies. You’ll work side-by-side with your classmates and interact with your instructors. The skills lab will allow you to put your knowledge into action and master core nursing competencies before entering the real world in clinical rotations.
What are hospital clinical rotations?
In our program, you’ll jump right into hospital clinical rotations. Don’t worry, though. You’ll be fully prepared to begin interacting with patients and the nursing staff thanks to your time in our skills lab and learning online. You’ll be accompanied by a member of our clinical faculty, as well as leader from your assigned clinical facility.
Throughout Marian University's ABSN program, you’ll always have someone to guide you—whether it’s your classmates, your instructor or a member of our clinical faculty.
