Accelerated Nursing Program Overview

With three program starts per year – January, May and August – our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (ABSN) takes the wait out of getting started in nursing school. Through its rigorous, effective curriculum of online coursework blended with on-site learning through skills and simulation labs as well as clinical rotations with a leading regional care provider, the program affords the academic foundation and clinical skills required to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam.
You can expect to complete the same amount of clinical time as a traditional BSN program, only you will begin the clinical phase much sooner by taking our accelerated nursing path.
How Our ABSN Program Works
Developed as a second-degree option for non-nurses, our ABSN program leverages your previous academic experience so you can earn a quality BSN in as few as 16 months. Before getting started in the program, however, you must first meet a series of science and humanities prerequisite course requirements.
Spanning four, 16-week semesters, our full-time accelerated nursing program comprises:
- Nursing theory coursework delivered through a dynamic online learning platform.
- Hands-on skills labs with nursing faculty at our ABSN program site.
- Real-world clinical practice within the Ascension Saint Thomas network.
Due to the fast pace and intensity of the program, it’s best to look at your nursing education as a full-time job. You will need to put a lot of time and energy into your courses, but just remember our faculty and staff are here to help you keep pace every step of the way.
