Great nursing outcomes at st. vincent

For Marian University's online-based Accelerated BSN program in Indianapolis, we offer our nursing students an experience they won’t find anywhere else.

Because student success is important to us, we maximize our students’ clinical experiences through our partnership with St. Vincent. Not only do the St. Vincent nurses go out of their way to give our students the best possible patient care experiences, but the leadership staff also gives our students a unique perspective on nursing that goes beyond the bedside.

This valuable collaboration allows students in our online-based accelerated bachelor of science in nursing (ABSN) program to gain insight and opportunities that will set them apart from other nursing school graduates.

What is a Clinical Partnership?

A clinical partnership connects students to experienced healthcare providers and real-life patients so they can gain real-world experience in a variety of practice areas, from acute care to medical surgical.

Clinical rotations with St. Vincent offer students the opportunity to practice their skills in real-world medical settings. The experience gained from diverse patient care settings gives a deeper understanding of the nursing profession. During rotations, students learn to:

  • Exhibit genuine caring behavior
  • Engage in appropriate communication
  • Perform safe therapeutic interventions
  • Employ ethical perspectives

Why St. Vincent?

Marian University is dedicated to providing our students a high-quality education with the best tools for success. That’s why our ABSN program teamed up with St. Vincent.

Students will work alongside nursing professionals and medical staff whose mission is to provide patients with spiritually-centered, holistic care with exceptional quality and service.

St. Vincent’s facilities include a healthcare complex in north Indianapolis, critical access hospitals, specialty hospitals, and several joint-venture partnership and clinical affiliations in central Indiana and throughout the state. This gives our nursing students countless opportunities to grow their skill set and professional network.

The medical team at St. Vincent is not only committed to providing mission-driven, compassionate, and safe care to patients and their families, but also eager to teach our nursing students to do the same.

The Value of the St. Vincent Partnership

There are numerous benefits to the immersive experience ABSN students receive through our St. Vincent partnership, including:

Consistency

Most nursing programs have students switch between multiple hospitals for clinical rotations. But our ABSN program provides students with a unique immersive experience largely with one partner, St. Vincent, because we understand it’s about more than the curriculum; it’s about providing a pathway to their future careers in nursing.

You’re not relearning the little things every time. You’re building upon your skills and focusing on what you’re lacking as a nursing student as opposed to just learning how to chart something very simple.

Career Connections

Our St. Vincent partnership gives students the chance to network within a massive healthcare system comprised of 20 hospitals, a medical complex and numerous joint ventures in Indiana. Our ABSN students will also become familiar with the procedures at St. Vincent, increasing the opportunity for future employment.

Our students work consistently alongside St. Vincent nurses, physicians, managers and staff who can help them build a professional network to use throughout their nursing careers, from job opportunities to letters of recommendation, advice and continuing mentorships.

There are a lot of hospital systems and great job opportunities in Indianapolis. I relocated here and consider it a pretty great place to live. I plan on staying in Indy and working at St. Vincent, where I currently have a tech job.

Management Experience

Our leadership course with St. Vincent provides an incredible advantage for our ABSN students. This unique course allows students to go beyond the bedside and experience life as a hospital manager. From sitting in on actual interviews to shadowing hospital leadership, this exclusive course provides students with the opportunity to learn how hospital management operates and helps them develop the leadership skills necessary to be successful in the healthcare industry.

This class is only for us. There aren’t other programs that are doing this at St. Vincent, and it’s taught me how to become a better nurse leader.

Diverse Opportunities

Diverse patient care experiences throughout the St. Vincent network provide students the wherewithal to pursue an alternative nursing career outside the hospital environment. Our students’ BSN degrees hold the ticket to potential employment with a corporate clinic, nursing care facility or school system.
