Nursing Jobs in Tennessee
Marian University partners with Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, allowing students to gain experience at one of the region’s largest medical groups. Saint Thomas Health is also a part of Ascension, the nation’s largest nonprofit health system, making the pool of opportunity much greater for Marian University students. As a 2015 ABSN graduate who is now a Saint Thomas Health nurse, Lindsay Degnan said she loves Saint Thomas Health.
When I met my leadership preceptor and her staff, I fell in love with them. She is my manager now. They were all like, you have to come work for us! And Ascension is huge, so having this experience here will make me set for life. – Lindsay Degnan/2015 ABSN Graduate/Saint Thomas Health Nurse
With dozens of specialties and advanced degrees for nurses, this career never has to be stagnant. Nurses can make lateral moves to positions that pique their interest, or with increased education pursue higher positions. There are also options for where to live. Nurses are needed everywhere because health care is a global need. The ability to work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, or military outposts gives nurses countless places to call home.
High Job Security
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing and The Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers conducted a survey in 2013 revealing that 53% of the RN workforce is 50 years of age or older. With so many nurses nearing retirement, not only will there be less nurses and nurse instructors in the healthcare space, but there will also be a larger population of people in need of healthcare. Therefore, a high level of job security comes with being a nurse.
