You have a bachelor’s degree in a field you thought you would enjoy, but now, you’re rethinking your decision. Your career goals have changed and now you want to become a nurse. The good news is, Marian University is giving career-changers, like you, a second chance at earning a bachelor’s of science in nursing degree in as few as 16 months.
The next step is learning what nursing school is really like through Marian University’s Accelerated BSN program. Then you can decide if the ABSN program is the right path for you.
Fast-track Your Path to Becoming a Nurse
It may be frustrating to have a non-nursing degree with nursing aspirations, but your hard work isn’t down the drain. In fact, the courses you’ve taken could be used towards a nursing degree through Marian University’s accelerated BSN program. This program has a condensed academic format, allowing second-degree students, like you, to earn a nursing degree in as few as 16 months. However, on this fast, yet rigorous path to becoming a registered nurse, quality is not compromised for speed.
While the accelerated BSN at Marian University is like a traditional program in that it offers high academic quality and clinical preparation, you have the opportunity to begin your nursing career in half the time it would take in a traditional program.
“Having had a previous career and going into nursing as my second career, I wanted a career where I could graduate in a short amount of time,” says Cristina Fontana, RN and Marian University ABSN graduate.
Quality Nursing Program, Two Locations
As a nonprofit, faith-based school, Marian University focuses on providing the best education and learning environment to help you to achieve your career goals. The accelerated nursing program’s online coursework offers you added convenience especially in comparison to other ABSN programs that only offer courses in a classroom.
Although Marian University offers online courses, you aren’t expected to figure it all out on your own. You can communicate with instructors and other students anytime through an online platform called Canvas. Online courses, however, are just the tip of the iceberg. Marian University’s accelerated BSN program has sites in both Indianapolis, IN and Nashville, TN where students are required to take hands-on simulation labs under academic instruction.
“The training we got through our clinicals was by far, way beyond what my expectations were,” says Deb. “They taught me the skills and the confidence I needed to go ahead and succeed.”
In addition to skills labs, students enrolled in the Indianapolis program will also gain first-hand hospital experience during clinical rotations at St Vincent.
Once students complete the skills labs, they learn to interact with actual patients during in-hospital clinical rotations. Students enrolled in Marian University’s ABSN program in Indianapolis complete their simulation labs and clinicals at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Center. Students in Nashville complete their in-hospital clinical rotations at Saint Thomas Health.
The Perfect Time for a Career ChangeThe current nursing shortage provides numerous opportunities for bachelor’s-educated nurses. The growing number of aging baby-boomers is creating a larger need for nurses with BSN degrees, so job opportunities after graduation can be plentiful. Marian University’s ABSN students have successfully transitioned into a career in nursing, which is why Cory, an ABSN graduate, chose this program.
So if you’re considering nursing, now’s the time to start. Earning your second degree isn’t nearly as daunting as it sounds. You may be able to build off the classes you’ve already taken, plus the online courses provide convenience you may not find in other ABSN programs. We’ll provide you with an academic advisor to answer any of your questions. You’ll have help every step of the way, from registration to graduation.
