If there is one thing we have in common throughout the great state of Indiana, it's basketball. Even for those that don't follow regular season games, everyone enjoys a little March Madness.
Most of us remember exactly where we jumped in the air when Keith Smart hit the shot. I jumped so high that I hit a light hanging from the ceiling where we were. It didn't fall and I don't think anyone even noticed it swaying at the time.
I retired from basketball after one season and a change of heart. I was starting point guard for the Long Beach Bulldogs. Perhaps that is why I have such a special place in my heart for Butler Blue II and III. I averaged 20 points a game (at least that's my version), and our team was undefeated that year.
Should disclose Long Beach is an elementary school, and I was in 5th grade. My change of heart was related to the fact I wasn't very good and would have rather been a cheerleader.
My play since that time is limited to mother/son games. That's me with the ball here. Gotta love the mom behind me with the clothesline to her son.
I think we would all love to see an Indiana team bring home a national championship just once more while we can still jump. That's why conference tournaments are so important. Win and you get an automatic ticket to the dance.
Indianapolis is proud to host both the men and women's Big Ten conference tourneys starting March 13. Our Boilermakers and Hurrying Hoosiers could sure use that home court advantage.
Meanwhile, I have my own March Madness that week with career fairs, as I search for the next great nursing student for Marian University's accelerated nursing program in Indianapolis.
Whether you are a student at IU or Purdue and considering your next move after graduation or a college graduate exploring a career change, there is something for everyone this week. Stop by my booth to learn more about how you can leverage your undergrad towards a BSN degree to become a nurse in as little as 16 months!
